I’ve been working tirelessly the last few months to improve my understanding, knowledge and practice surrounding holography – and since I’ve always had a soft spot for tangible media, I began with silver-based holography. And I’ve been wondering why this medium, this technology, has halted a couple of times already and barely found its way towards inclusion in performative practices.

Soooo I thought it was time to try and this is how Affective Particles came to be!

A funky team came together, and we started experimenting with not only holograms, but contemporary dance, while orbiting certain concepts from quantum physics.

Affective Particles invites the public to experiment and play within the shifting environment of probability, light and (un)observed particles. The ideas researched, beyond the technical limits of holography and performance, are rooted in quantum physics, with a focus on the concept of superposition – the observed behaviour of studied systems as simultaneously inhabiting disjunct states.

This concept is extrapolated into an interactive performative installation, featuring Irina Marinescu’s choreography, touching ground with Lepecki’s theory on movement that goes beyond visual perception, by means of darkness and dissipation of orientation, Alexandros Raptis’ sound composition and my multimedia installation, in collab with Andrei Tudose.

The project is developed with support from Qolony – the Art & Science Colony and Administration of the National Cultural Fund (AFCN), in partnership with the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics (INFLPR), The National Center for Dance Bucharest – CNDB, VAGon – in(ter)disciplined space, Simultan Association.

About

Qolony – the Art & Science Colony is a cultural organization from Bucharest, which functions as a generator of links between art, science, and technology, through events and projects such as artistic residencies, exhibitions, conferences, artist / scientist talks, research and artistic creation.

The National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics (INFLPR) conducts fundamental and applied research in the field of lasers, the interaction of light with matter, plasma and electron accelerators.

The National Center for Dance Bucharest (CNDB) is the only public cultural institution subordinated to the Romanian Ministry of Culture created with the aim of supporting, developing and promoting contemporary dance.
