Fuori Visioni 8 contemporary art festival (Piacenza, IT)

So happy to see my little old Faulty Technology travelling (again and again) to wonderful places I wish I could also visit! This time, she travels to Italy, in Piacenza, at the Fuori Visioni 8 contemporary art festival, part of the Kinētechós Pavilion / The Wrong Biennale #6 (big thank you’s to lovely curator Anna Utopia Giordano for making this happen!)
“
Fuori Visioni presents, from 3 to 6 January 2024, the eighth edition of Fuori Visioni. This edition also moves between physical and digital space and identifies itself as an act of collective and individual (r)Existence.
The collective FUORI VISIONI, led by the visual artist Luka Moncaleano, takes us to the rediscovery of the city of Piacenza, transforming it into a platform for creation and an element of the artistic action itself through performances and audiovisual projections.
In ’75, in the Corriere della Sera, in the article “The vacuum of power in Italy”, Pasolini used the metaphor of the disappearance of fireflies to speak and denounce a silent change which, within a few decades, would have irremediably changed the social panorama Italian culture. It is through his words that I would like to begin to outline the identikit of this eighth edition.
This year FV does not want to be a melancholic remembrance of times and places now swallowed up by the incessant advance of changes, but wants to represent an act of (r)existence.
Like fireflies, which represent a fragile environmental indicator, Fuori Visioni, in this edition, wants to constitute itself as a social thermometer, capable of returning the temperature in which we find ourselves unconsciously paralyzed.
Too many times I have heard the Dostoevskian quote on the power of beauty to save the world, a beautiful tale that we told ourselves in order to be able to shift, in a schizophrenic way, our gaze onto spectacularized and seductive forms, capable of quelling that alarm bell that has now too long sounds.
How can we bring our gaze back to each other? Which Ludovico treatment should we implement to return to feeling like critical protagonists of the public dimension? We found the answer for this edition in the urgency of re-appropriating public space.
